Fun for Kids in Perth: Santa’s Christmas Carnival!

KidzaBuzzers, have you heard? Christmas is coming early to Perth this year! Twelve days early! Please excuse the exclamation marks, it’s just that we’re very excited to be helping bring Santa’s Christmas Carnival to Perth!

Yep – on December 13, Perth’s Claremont Showgrounds are being transformed into a Christmas wonderland, packed with rides, activities, live entertainment … and the all-important visit from Santa.

My kids are besides themselves with excitement already, after I made the mistake of showing them the flyer. It’s like the lead up to The Wiggles show at Perth arena all over again. But seriously, I can’t blame them. There will be extreme motocross stunt shows and thrill rides in side show alley for nine-year-old Ben, and live stage shows, face painting, pony and camel rides, an animal nursery, kids’ mechanical rides, trampolines, bouncy castles, mini golf, circus skills and spider mountain for the little ones.

Here’s the good bit – once you’ve paid your entry fee, all the rides are free, apart from the prize-winning games, obviously, which means you can spend your pennies on refreshments, showboats and KidzaBuzz voucher books, which will be available to buy on the day and make EXCELLENT Christmas presents, have you heard?

Here’s a tip on the day: head to the main arena early on and keep your eyes to the sky. Santa’s set to arrive in spectacular style to mark the opening of the carnival. Hopefully my youngest kids will have dealt with their Santa phobia by then – I’ll report back on that one.

Once he’s landed, Santa and his helpers will make their way to the main stage where they’ll meet and greet the children (probably not mine) and have a huge, old-fashioned Christmas Carol sing-along with special guest singer Jay Weston.

There’s going to be plenty of entertainment on stage, and I’m personally very much looking forward to seeing Cher, Freddie Mercury and the Blues Brothers (I’m guessing these are impersonators, although I could be wrong, although I don’t think I am) as well as ZAP Circus and the Lulus Christmas Show. Remind me to wear my dancing shoes!

You know what I’m looking forward to the most? Side Show Alley. I love that I don’t have to wait until next year’s Royal Show to visit it. I mean, I’m not much of a thrill chaser (like, at all) but I love the carnival atmosphere. I’m not sure any of my gang could be convinced to try the tumbler, wave-swinger, or THE MELTDOWN, but we might be persuaded to go on the dodgem cars. Can’t wait!

Santa’s Christmas Carnival is on December 13th, from 11 to 5, at Claremont Showgrounds. Tickets cost $31.50 each, with children under 2 FREE. Buy tickets online now at www.santaschristmascarnival.com.au. For more info, visit the website or Facebook page.
