Our KidzaBuzz Adventurer checks out some cool indoor activities Perth, this time at Chipmunks Playland and Cafe in Wanneroo!
Show me a parent who says they love children’s play centres, and I will show you a fibber. Without fail, they’re noisy, and full of kids, and dangerously lacking in wine. What’s to love?
Yet somehow, over the past decade, I’ve frequented pretty much every play centre north of the river, and even a couple on the south side. And why? Because my children love them. Of course they do. They’re noisy, and full of kids, and dangerously lacking in wine. My three children go nuts for play centres, and they could think of no better way to spend a cyclonic Sunday morning than at Chipmunks Playland and Café in Wanneroo.
We’d been here only once before, when Alice was still quite small and Ben was at school, so to them this was a NEW play centre, and therefore worthy of cheers and jumping and fist pumping upon arrival. They were REALLY excited to be there. And with good reason!
Indoor Activities Perth: Chipmunks delivers (for everyone!)
This is paradise, for kids. The under 5s section is brilliant, with bouncy things and jumpy things and musical things and climbing things, with the added bonus being that parents can sit at the nearby tables and watch the kids from a distance, knowing they can’t get into too much bother, apart from maybe perhaps being hit in the face by a ball that their uncoordinated big brother has accidentally thrown in their general direction even though he was aiming it elsewhere.
There’s a massive bouncy slide that my three adored, even Alice, who was technically way too young for it, and I actually couldn’t get Ben and Frankie out of the over-5s climbing play jungle maze thing, complete with ball shooters. I don’t think that’s the actual name of it, but I can’t think of what else it might be called. And of course we had chips (excellent) and apple juice (highly rated), thus making it the best Sunday morning EVER, according to Ben and Frankie.
I must admit, although I usually just grit my teeth and COPE with play centres, this one was great. I appreciate the small gestures made to help parents survive (good coffee, for starters), but maybe the grown-up chill-out sofa zone (again, not the official name) is in need of a little update.
So anyway, as Chipmunks Playland and Café in Wanneroo is a kids’ indoor play centre and a great indoor activity in Perth, I asked my kids to rate it. Ben gave it nine out of 10. It lost one point because he got lost in the climbing play jungle maze thing, but I would say that’s more because he’s lacking in any sense of direction, rather than a direct fault of Chipmunks.
Frankie gave it four out of 10, although to be fair, he think he’s 23 years old, so perhaps the numerical rating system isn’t for him. He loved it, and said the only thing he didn’t like was the rollercoaster, which is odd, for obvious reasons. And Alice doesn’t speak, but she screamed when we were leaving, so I’d say that counts as a resounding 10 out of 10, wouldn’t you?
